Tasks and reminders
Get thoughts out of your head, save them as tasks, and find them again when it is time to act.
Where a task ends up
Every task you speak or type is saved in one place, and it helps to know which:
- Built-in BrightMind tasks. This is the default. New accounts start with it selected, and it works before any integration is connected.
- Your selected task manager. If you connected Todoist, TickTick, or Google Tasks and selected it in Settings, new tasks are saved there instead.
To check which is active, open Settings and look at your integrations and task-manager selection. One task manager is active at a time. Switching the selection does not move your old tasks: what you saved before stays where it was saved.
On Home, a task without a time sits in the anytime area; a task with a time sits in the timeline at that time. The Inbox-style list of everything lives in the tasks view, so a task you cannot place on a day is still findable there.
Create a task
The easiest way is to just say it in a conversation:
- “Add a task to water the plants tomorrow at 6 pm.”
- “I need to clean my room, call the dentist, and buy cat food.” BrightMind can sort a whole brain dump into separate tasks with you.
Check the reply and tap the task in the conversation to see its details. The change is saved where the task lives: in BrightMind or your connected app.
Find, edit, and complete
- Find: open Home for today or any other day, or open the tasks view for everything. You can also reopen the conversation where you created a task.
- Edit: ask in conversation (“Move the plant-watering task to 7 pm”), or open the task details and change them there.
- Complete: check off the task in the app, or tell BrightMind you did it. Changes are saved in the task's own store.
Bulk edits, like moving or completing many tasks at once, can be limited by some connected apps. If a big batch does not go through, do it in the connected app directly.
Scheduled day vs due day
The day you plan to do something can be different from the day it must be done. You can work on the form on Tuesday and submit it on Friday. BrightMind keeps both dates, and a task whose due day has passed can show up for review instead of vanishing.
When you see a prompt to review overdue items, that is what it is: a chance to finish, move, or drop tasks left over from earlier days. See Work through overdue tasks.
Repeats
A task can repeat: every day, every week, or on any pattern you and BrightMind agree on. Repeats work with built-in tasks and with the task managers that support them (see the matrix below; Google Tasks does not).
Completing one instance of a repeating task affects that instance, not the whole series. Your next occurrence stays on its schedule. Say it plainly in conversation if you want the whole series changed, for example “stop the gym task from repeating.” Exact repeat behavior can vary by connected app, so check the task details after you complete one.
Reminders
A task can carry a reminder so your phone notifies you at the time you set. Ask for it in conversation (“remind me to call the dentist on Friday”) or set it in the task details. A reminder is a saved notification on a task, which is different from memory: remembered context shapes replies, a reminder reaches you at a time. If a reminder did not arrive, check troubleshooting.
Notes on tasks
A task can hold notes: extra detail you want next to it when you open it. There is no separate notes library; notes live on tasks. If something is bigger than a note, keep it in the conversation and link the idea to the task by mentioning it.
Trash
Deleting a built-in task moves it to trash for 30 days before it is gone for good. This trash behavior applies to the built-in store; connected apps handle deleted tasks their own way.
Built-in tasks vs connected task managers
Choose where new tasks go based on what each place can hold. Here is how the options compare for the decisions you actually make:
| Feature | BrightMind built-in | Todoist | TickTick | Google Tasks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Needs an extra account | No | Yes | Yes | Yes (Google account) |
| Task times | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Repeats | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Reminders | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Subtasks | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Habits | No | No | Yes | No |
| Where changes are saved | In BrightMind | In Todoist | In TickTick | In Google Tasks |
Google Calendar is not on this list because events are separate from tasks: a calendar connection stores things that happen at a time, not things to check off. See the Google Calendar guide.
